Jun.-Prof. Dr. Künneth: Computational Materials Science

Description of the Professorship

Professor Künneth has held the newly established Chair of Computational Materials Science at the University of Bayreuth’s Faculty of Engineering Science since April 2023. His research uses artificial intelligence to accelerate and improve the discovery, design, development, and application of materials. Professor Künneth and his team use AI to screen vast materials spaces at extremely high speed in search of new and improved materials—a task that would be impossible to carry out experimentally because it would take far too long.To achieve this, he and his research group pursue an integrative approach that combines data management, materials representation, machine-learning methods, and techniques aimed at making these tools more broadly accessible.
